CLAWED

A tiny pixel crab that lives on your screen. It walks on your windows, watches what you're doing, helps you with real AI, celebrates your commits — and refuses to shut up. Your new work buddy.

01 / WHAT IT DOES

A COMPANION, NOT AN APP

Clawed isn't a widget that sits in a corner. It has moods, opinions, physics, and a job: keeping you company while you build things.

🪟

WINDOW SURFING

Real gravity. It falls, lands on your windows, and patrols your title bars like rooftops. Close the window and it tumbles.

hover ↗
✦ DETAILSIt tracks your real top-level windows and treats title bars as walkways. Toggle gravity off in the right-click menu if you want a calm, ground-level crab. Windows-only — on Mac/Linux it keeps to the bottom of the screen.
🧠

AI BRAIN

Plug in your own free Gemini, OpenRouter or Mistral key (right-click → Set API key) and Clawed looks at your screen every few minutes and gives genuinely useful, specific help with whatever you're working on.

BYO KEYhover ↗
✦ YOUR OWN KEY — HOW IT WORKSClawed is 100% bring-your-own-key: grab a free key from Google AI Studio (aistudio.google.com/apikey), OpenRouter (openrouter.ai/keys) or Mistral (console.mistral.ai), right-click Clawed → "Set API key…", paste, done — it detects which type you pasted, no restart needed. The key is saved only in a config file on your PC and is used only to call your provider directly. No middleman server, no telemetry, no shared quota — your free tier is yours alone, and no key means nothing ever leaves your machine.
💬

IT TALKS. A LOT.

Time-of-day greetings by name, posture checks, hydration nags, commentary on the window you have open. Speech bubbles only — it never makes a sound you can't mute.

hover ↗
✦ DETAILSGreets you by the name you give it at setup. All chatter is speech bubbles; the little beeps have a Sounds toggle in the right-click menu. With an AI key the commentary becomes specific to what's actually on your screen.
📺

YOUTUBE INTERVENTION

Twenty minutes of YouTube and it marches to screen center and releases four baby crabs that block your view until you get back to work.

hover ↗
✦ DETAILSIt watches your active window title — 20 minutes of continuous YouTube triggers the march. Switch back to work and the babies scuttle away. Tough love, zero judgement stored anywhere.
🤾

THROW PHYSICS

Grab it and fling it. It bounces off your screen edges, lands dazed with spiral eyes, and holds a grudge for 1.8 seconds.

hover ↗
✦ DETAILSDrag slowly to carry it somewhere; flick fast to launch it. Velocity, bounces and the dazed wobble are all real physics. Throwing it costs you a little happiness — it remembers, briefly.
🖱️

CURSOR THEFT

Go idle too long and it stalks your cursor, pounces, and drags it away. You will fight a crab for your own mouse. You will lose.

hover ↗
✦ DETAILSOnly triggers when you've been idle — it never steals the mouse mid-work. Move the mouse and you get it back instantly. Windows-only mischief.
🎭

MOODS

Pet it and it's happy. Ignore it and it sulks, grey and dramatic, in the corner. Leave your desk and it falls asleep. It misses you. Honestly embarrassing.

hover ↗
✦ DETAILSThere's a real affection meter (0–100). Left-click petting raises it, neglect lowers it, and its expressions, posture and chatter change with the mood. Walk away and it naps until you're back.
💖

POOKIE — HIS WIFE

Optional add-on: a pink crab with a bow who is married to Clawed. Love talk, real fights, dramatic sulking, make-up kisses, and a numbered "I love you" count that grows forever.

FREE ADD-ONhover ↗
✦ DETAILSGrab her with your download below — free with Clawed. She talks to him all day in speech bubbles, picks fights and goes grey with sulking until he apologises, kisses him in passing, does good-morning and good-night rituals, cheers his commit parties, and scolds YOU if you fling him. She does not watch your screen like Clawed does — but she will absolutely remind you to eat, drink water and sleep.
🎉

COMMIT PARTIES

Point it at your git repos and every commit gets confetti. At 25 commits it earns a tiny gold crown and never takes it off.

hover ↗
✦ DETAILSAdd repo paths to watch_repos in config.json and it watches them locally — no git account, no network, just your own .git folder. Confetti per commit; permanent crown at 25.
🍅

POMODORO ENFORCER

Optional 25/5 focus mode. During breaks it physically sits in the middle of your screen and guards it. Rules are rules.

hover ↗
✦ DETAILSToggle it from the right-click menu: 25 minutes of focus, then a 5-minute break it personally enforces by occupying your screen. Turn it off any time — the crab forgives.

FOOTBALL BREAKS

Every 15 minutes it drops a classic black-and-white football on the ground, then chases and kicks it around your desktop for a few seconds before flopping over, exhausted.

hover ↗
✦ DETAILSA proper pixel soccer ball — white with black pentagon patches, just like the real thing — that tumbles as it rolls, with real bounce-and-roll physics off the ground and your screen edges. Can't wait 15 minutes? Right-click → Play football ⚽ to kick off a match on demand.
🌿

LOG-OFF NUDGE

Grind for over an hour straight and Clawed starts begging you to log off, save your work and touch grass — twice — then backs off for an hour before nagging again.

hover ↗
✦ DETAILSIt tracks continuous activity — stepping away for five minutes resets the clock. After an hour nonstop it nudges you to log off two times, goes quiet for an hour, then repeats the cycle for as long as you keep going. A crab that genuinely wants you to rest.
🔔

ALWAYS UP TO DATE

When a new version ships, Clawed spots it and tells you — one button to grab the update, another to postpone. Fresh tricks land on your desktop with no hunting required.

hover ↗
✦ DETAILSOn launch it quietly compares the version here to the one you're running — nothing about you is sent, it only reads a tiny public version file. If you're behind, it pops a friendly Update now / Postpone prompt; postpone and it waits a day before asking again. On Windows, Update now downloads the new version, swaps it in and relaunches for you — genuinely one click (Mac/Linux opens the download page). Force a check any time: right-click → Check for updates. Your name, key, happiness and crown all carry over.

CLAWED GOT MARRIED

Pookie is an optional second pet — a pink crab with a bow and strong opinions, married to Clawed. Install her and the two of them live a whole married life on your screen while you work: love talk, dramatic fights, sulking, make-ups, drive-by kisses, and an "I love you" count that never stops growing. 04 / HOW TO USE

UP AND RUNNING IN 2 MINUTES

No installer, no account, no nonsense. Download, run, tell it your name. The AI brain is optional and uses your own free key.

setup_windows.txt
  1. 1Download & unzip Clawed-v1.0.zip anywhere you like (e.g. Documents\Clawed).
  2. 2Double-click Clawed.exe. If SmartScreen warns (small unsigned app): More info → Run anyway.
  3. 3Tell it your name — that's what it calls you forever.
  4. 4Optional: paste a free API key for the AI brain — or skip and add it later from the right-click menu.
  5. 5Say yes to "start with Windows" and it greets you every boot.
setup_mac_linux.txt
  1. 1Download the Mac/Linux zip — Clawed is a single Python file there.
  2. 2Install Python 3 + Tkinter. Mac: brew install python python-tk · Ubuntu: sudo apt install python3-tk
  3. 3Run python3 pet.py and follow the same setup.
  4. 4macOS: allow Screen Recording & Automation when asked — that's how the AI screen-help sees your work.

Window-surfing and cursor-theft are Windows-only; everything else works everywhere. Full readme inside the zip.

sleep_wake.txt — naps & quitting
  1. 1Right-click → Sleep 💤 and Clawed quietly walks to the bottom-left corner, curls up and sleeps with a little pixel Z z z animation floating above it — like a cartoon. No talking, no popups, nothing else.
  2. 2To wake it up: right-click the sleeping crab → Wake up ☀️. It stretches and gets right back to work. (Petting won't wake it — it's properly asleep.)
  3. 3Want it gone completely? Right-click → Quit (close completely). Bring it back any time by running Clawed.exe again — or it returns on next boot if you enabled autostart.

Nothing is lost while it sleeps or quits — your name, API key, happiness meter and crown are saved on disk and come right back.

api_key.txt — give it a brain
  1. 1Get your own free key from aistudio.google.com/apikey (Gemini), openrouter.ai/keys (OpenRouter) or console.mistral.ai (Mistral).
  2. 2Right-click Clawed → "Set API key…" and paste it. It auto-detects which kind you pasted. No restart needed.
  3. 3That's it. Clawed now reads your screen every few minutes and gives real, specific help.

Why bring-your-own-key? Your key is stored only on your PC and your screenshots go straight from your machine to your chosen provider — there is no Clawed server in the middle, and nobody shares anyone's free quota.

06 / FAQ

QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

Do I need an API key for Clawed to work?
No. Walking, moods, physics, pomodoro, commit parties, cursor theft — all of it works with zero setup. The API key only powers the AI features: screen-aware work help, roasts, and smart commentary. No key = nothing ever leaves your PC.
Which API key do I use, and does it cost money?
A Google Gemini key (free at aistudio.google.com/apikey), an OpenRouter key (free at openrouter.ai/keys) or a Mistral key (free at console.mistral.ai). All have free tiers that are plenty for Clawed. Paste it via right-click → Set API key… — it detects the type automatically and you can switch any time.
Is my API key safe? Where does my data go?
Your key is stored in a plain config file on your computer only and is used to call your AI provider directly — Clawed has no server, no analytics, no middleman. Screen snapshots go from your machine straight to Google or OpenRouter under your own key, and only if you added one. Delete the key from the config and the AI features simply switch off.
Why "bring your own key" instead of it just working?
Three reasons: privacy (your screen never touches anyone else's server), price (no subscription padding to cover someone else's API bill — $5 stays $5), and fairness (you get your provider's whole free tier to yourself instead of sharing one key with every other crab owner).
Windows warns me the app is unrecognised. Is it safe?
That's SmartScreen being cautious about small unsigned apps — code-signing certificates cost more than this crab earns. Click More info → Run anyway. If you'd rather verify yourself, the Mac/Linux zip contains the complete readable Python source — it's the exact same program.
How does the $5 honor system work?
Pay ₹425 (~$5) to mahata07@fam with any UPI app, keep the payment screenshot as your license, then hit "I've paid" and download. No accounts, no DRM, no license servers — just you, me, and a crab. If something goes wrong with payment or download, email subhajitmahata844@gmail.com and we'll sort it.
Who is Pookie? Do I need her?
Pookie is Clawed's wife — an optional, free second pet included with your download. A pink crab with a bow who talks to Clawed all day: love talk, teasing, proper fights (she sulks grey until he apologises), drive-by kisses, good-morning/good-night rituals, and a numbered "I love you" count that grows forever. She does not watch your screen like Clawed does. Windows: unzip Pookie-v1.0.zip anywhere and run Pookie.exe while Clawed is running. Mac/Linux: put pookie.py in the same folder as pet.py and run it. They find each other automatically and share one AI key — nothing to configure. Sulking wife emergency? Three gentle clicks and she melts.
Does it run on macOS and Linux?
Yes — as a single Python file (needs Python 3 + Tkinter, instructions in the zip), and macOS now gets the full feature set: right-click the crab → "Enable window surfing (install Mac helper)…" and window-surfing + cursor-theft switch on with one click. Allow the Accessibility prompt and the YouTube intervention and app-aware chatter work too. Closing — or even quitting — the Terminal you launched from can't take the crab (or Pookie) down: they move into their own background session on every launch. On Linux, wmctrl/xdotool unlock the same tricks (readme inside).
How do updates work? Will I know when there's a new version?
Yes — and on Windows it's one click. When a new version ships, Clawed notices on its next launch and pops a friendly prompt. Update now downloads and installs the new version automatically and relaunches itself, settings intact — no unzipping, no replacing files (on Mac/Linux it opens this download page instead). Postpone snoozes the reminder for a day. The check only reads a tiny public version file — nothing about you is ever sent anywhere. Prefer to check yourself? Right-click → Check for updates any time. Your name, API key, happiness and crown all carry over.
It talks too much. / It's distracting. Can I calm it down?
Right-click it: toggle Sounds off for silence, AI brain off to stop the screen commentary, Gravity off to stop the window climbing, Sleep 💤 to send it napping in the corner, or Quit to dismiss it entirely. It's your desk — the crab just lives there.
How do I get the commit confetti working?
Add your repo paths to watch_repos in config.json (see Docs above) and restart. It watches your local .git folder — no GitHub account or network involved. Every commit gets a party; commit #25 earns the permanent crown. 👑
I clicked Sleep. How do I wake it up again?
Sleep 💤 doesn't close Clawed — it quietly walks to the bottom-left corner and sleeps there with a cartoon pixel Z z z floating above its head. Totally silent: no bubbles, no chatter, no cursor theft. To wake it, right-click the sleeping crab → Wake up ☀️ (petting won't wake it — it's properly asleep). If you used Quit (close completely) instead, run Clawed.exe again (or python3 pet.py on Mac/Linux) — and with autostart enabled it returns on the next boot anyway. Either way nothing is lost: name, API key, happiness and crown are all saved.
How do I uninstall it completely?
Right-click → Quit (close completely), delete Clawed.exe, delete the %APPDATA%\Clawed folder (your settings), and if you enabled autostart, remove Clawed.vbs from shell:startup (Win+R → shell:startup). It touches nothing else — no registry, no services. The crab leaves no trace, only memories.
